I have been a florist since I was a teenager. It ‘s a job that I love so much that I owned and ran a wedding floral company in Traverse City Mi. for 23 years. I “retired” from my business in 2017, even though I didn’t miss the chaos of long hours and paperwork, I did long for the joy of working with flowers. In 2021, I was given the opportunity to work with flowers again at Blue Bridge Events in Interlochen, Mi. I know the venue well having worked with the previous owners on several occasions and jumped at the opportunity to work with Stephanie and Chris and their amazing staff.
Wedding flowers are amazing and set the tone for the event but what happens to the flowers after the wedding? With at least 20-40 weddings each weekend in just the Grand Traverse Area alone, there is an overabundance. Nursing homes and hospice have always been personal favorites of mine to donate to but sometimes there wasn’t always enough for everyone or they had already received flowers from another event. But what if the left over flowers could be turned into a community event bringing people together to repurpose the flowers for a non profit? Welcome to the After 26 floral repurpose program!
I’m interested in helping repurpose flowers on Tuesdays! I worked at a florist’s shop, and appreciate your idea of getting away from the chaos and doing this to benefit After 26. I look forward to being involved!
